Introduction

The thematic middle (and passive) infinitive marker is /εσθαι, where -ε- is a theme vowel. This is added to the progressive stem to create the thematic middle and passive progressive infinitive:

          ἄγ/εσθαι > ἄγεσθαι
          γι/γέν/εσθαι > γίγνεσθαι
          τέμ/ν/εσθαι > τέμνεσθαι
