Asigmatic Aorist Active Participle

Introduction

To form the asigmatic aorist active participle, to the base add the thematic default participle marker /όντ/, which takes the accent. Because /όντ/ is thematic, the masculine nominative singular is marked by /L:

λαβ/όντ/L > λαβών (masculine nom. sing.)
λαβ/όντ/ > λαβόν (neuter nom. sing.)
λαβ/όντ/ος > λαβόντος (masculine or neuter gen. sing.)

The feminine participle uses the /Jα/ marker:

λαβ/όντ/Jα/ > λαβοῦσα (feminine nom. sing.)*
λαβ/όντ/Jα/Lς > λαβούσης (feminine gen. sing.)

* τJ produces σ, so λαβόντJα > λαβόνσα. Then ν drops before σ in an adjective, so λαβόνσα > λαβό_σα. Then the quantitative gap left by the droppage of ν is filled by stretching the previous vowel, so λαβό_σα > λαβοῦσα.
