Adjectives: Positive Degree

Introduction

The satyr is not tall, but he is taller than the panther. Dionysus is the tallest of them all.

Adjectives come in degrees. The default degree of an adjective (tall, pretty, angry, etc.) is called the positive degree. When the characteristic of two or more things is compared, the comparative degree (taller, more pretty, rather angry) is used. The superlative degree (tallest, most pretty, very angry) is used when something is the most of that characteristic.
